Downtown
I miss my old apartment. Even though it never got warmer than fifty degrees in the winter and it smelled like gas on multiple occasions and it was expensive and only two people could fit in the kitchen at one time...i miss it.
It was charming and cozy and it was the first time I lived alone. I really enjoyed living there. It holds a lot of good memories. Plus I magically got free cable!
Anyway, I guess I'm feeling nostalgic today...
It happens.

"He was a seductive romantic..."
I've been reading this book about Henri Cartier-Bresson. His life story is so fascinating. I haven't gotten that far into it yet but so far I've enjoyed it. It talks about how he started out as a painter, his time in Africa, an illness that almost killed him...
I've also been flipping through this book of portraits he's taken. So beautiful. I highly recommend both.

My real name is David Jones
Chaz showed me this today. It's David Bowie's response to his first American fan letter. He was twenty years old when he wrote this to fourteen year old Sandra Dodd from New Mexico. He sounds so sweet and an overall normal guy. I would have died if David Bowie wrote to me. I wonder what Sandra thought when she received this in the mail...

Boots
Wanting to get a nice pair of boots this winter. I've got my eye on a few pairs. Though I probably wont get either of them due to the fact that I have no money. A girl can wish though...

Masao Yamamoto
On this rainy afternoon I find myself staring at my computer screen searching for the right words to start my artist's statement. I'm hoping these magical words will kick start the 140 or so words that need to follow to complete my statement. My mind is blank. This cannot be a good sign. So, I've turned to the internet...reading statements by various artists I admire. Again and again I turn to Yamamoto. Each time I see his work I am in awe of his talent, his way of being, his world. His photographs stir something inside of me that I can't completely identify. Maybe I see myself in them. Perhaps my family, a memory I have, or a dream...
Here's a video I found of Yamamoto describing his work and little about his process.
