our wedding invitations
So I thought I'd share our wedding invitations on here since I spent a lot of time on these and I'm really happy with how they turned out. I blurred out some information (kind of scared me a little to share all the details online). I ended up designing these myself, using the silhouettes (this post is from 2009!) I took of us when Chaz and I first starting dating. I took the silhouettes, decorated them with lace, paper, dried flower, twigs, twine and embroidered our wedding date then photographed that and edited the image and added the text on my computer. I used this on-line printer for the invitations and RSVP cards which turned out nicely. Their uncoated paper is pretty nice and they aren't too expensive. I printed the direction cards at home on card stock to save some money and had my wonderful sister in Florida address them all since her handwriting is a million times better than mine. It was the prefect touch! Overall I'm happy with the design and I'm glad I stuck with it. It's very 'us' and in the end that's all I really wanted.

Small Spaces Preparation

Hirona and I put up our work today at the gallery. The show is up and ready to go for Sat. My work is in the frames and the last image is a shot I took of Hirona photographing her own work. The first five images are my miniatures I'll be selling in addition to my framed stuff. I'm pretty excited. It looks really nice in the space. The City Paper also a did a lovely article about us for this week's issue. Check it out.

Update: Under the Radar

I haven't posted here in a while, I know. So, I thought I'd do a little update and share some news. Earlier this year I found out that I was one of eight artists chosen to be featured in an exhibition here in Charleston at the City Gallery. Since then I've been working hard making new work, setting up a new website and getting business cards made. I have, along with the other artists, been featured in Charleston Magazine. I can't wait for the opening which is next week, May 26! Come if you can!
Above is a photo of me in my studio from the magazine and below are two new pieces that will be in the show.

Above is the flier for my upcoming show. I'm pretty pleased with how it come out. I think it looks great. Today I had a meeting with the three other artists in the show and after seeing everyone's work I think it's going to be awesome. I can't wait till the opening. For more information, such as the date of the show and etc, click on the image.

An Experiment

So Chaz and I have started a year long experiment called, "Consumer Whore No More". For this experiment we have decided not buy anything new for the next year. This means no video games, movies, CDs, clothes, shoes, home decor, etc. We started this experiment for a few reasons. First of all we want to see if we can actually do it but really we want to start appreciating the things we already have and to start saving more money while living less frivolously. In addition to not buying anything new we've also limited the amount of times we can eat out (which is the difficult part, for me at least). Here are the rules we made up:
What is NOT Allowed
-No new items
What is Allowed
-Medicine
-Items required for school and/or artistic endeavors
-Gifts for others & each other (such as birthdays and Christmas)
-Accepting gifts from others & each other
-Eating out
Chaz - 18x per year
Chaz & Nina - 12x per year
Nina - 12x per year
-Thrift store/ 2nd hand
-Pet items as needed
-Important Home Improvements
-Preexisting magazine or online subscriptions but no re-subscribing once expired
-Recreational activities, such as the movies or bowling
-Garden supplies
-Anything that is not frivolous, unnecessary, or junk.
So, over the next couple months or so I might limit myself on how much time I spend on the internet since most of my time is spent looking at fashion/style blogs or on-line window shopping. It's probably best I don't tempt myself or make myself depressed. But overall I think we can do it and that this experiment will be good for us.
Wish us Luck!
